AGATHONISSI

Agathonissi is a tiny island, the northernmost of the Dodecanese, bordering Samos. Agathos is the Greek word for pure, untouched and so is the island, as its very name suggests.

Its port, Agios Georgios connects it to the rest of Greece. There are only two villages, Megalo Horio, the larger and older one and Mikro Horio that’s been built right across.  Megalo is Greek for big and mikro means small, thus two more names make a good fit.

Tholoi is an excellent example of 11 century architecture and evidence suggests the location was a food storage complex.

Passenger routes connect Ai Stratis to Kalymnos and Samos four times a week and to Rodos on a weekly basis.
