Arki, the exotic Aegean-island complex

There is a beautiful cluster of islands very close to Patmos and Lipsi, consisting of 12 islands. The biggest one, Arki (Arkoi), is home to 40-50 permanent residents, caretta-carteta turtles and monachus-monachus seals. Discover a virgin and unspoilt destination!

Must see attractions

  • You won’t need a car here. The main settlement is at the port and you can move around the island on foot, by boat or by hiring a sea taxi.
  • The church of Panagia Pantanassa is on the top of a hill from where you have amazing views to nearby islands such as Samos and Patmos. It’s a 15-minute walk from the port.
  • In the same area you can see the remains of the Arki Castle, built in the 4thcentury BC.

Must visit beaches

  • Mikri is very close to the port and has shimmering sand and emerald waters. It’s secluded without sunbeds or any facilities, as all beaches are in Arki.
  • Very close from there you can find Patelia which is both pebbled and sandy, and its neighbouring Kato Patelia.
  • Tiganakia is a photogenic, popular beach which in some parts is sandy and in others pebbled. You can reach it through a trail or by boat.
  • The trees in Augusta provide natural shadow. There is a restaurant nearby, if you are feeling hungry.
  • Limnari is on the other side of the island, where the waters have an impressive blue colour.

Must do activities

  • Hiking to explore every hidden corner of the island, as long as it isn’t too hot or too windy.
  • Walk an hour from the port to see the stunning stalactites and stalagmites of the Arki Cave.
  • Rent a boat and enjoy swimming and snorkelling at the nearby, secluded islets of Avaptisto, Makronisi and more. All year long, even during the crowded summer season, you will probably have them for yourself!

Tip: The island doesn’t have an ATM or a pharmacy so you will need to take everything you need with you, beforehand.
