It’s a small town next to Rotterdam and a popular summer resort. The port started operating in 1893, and it is at the Nieuwe Waterweg canal at the coast of the North Sea. The area started to become important after World War I and during World War II it became a strategic point for Germany.

• The Museum RockArt is next to the port and here you can find music artists’ memorabilia and collectibles from the 50’s to today.
• The Fort aan den Hoek van Holland, is also known as Fort 1881, because it was completed in 1881. It was one of the most contemporary forts of its era and today it hosts a museum and a restaurant.
• The Atlantikwall Museum is the War Museum where you can find all about the history of the Atlantic Wall.

• Swimming at the beach of Hook of Holland, which is vibrant, with many restaurants and cafes. The beach is 3,5 km long and has many sand dunes.
• Watersports like kitesurf and windsurf at the same beach.
• Book a boat tour to see the impressive cargo port of Rotterdam, which is next to the port of Hook of Holland. It’s more than possible that you will encounter see seals in the water. The cheapest way to explore the port is by fast ferry, which is part of the public means of transportation of Holland. However, you won’t have a guide on the tour.
• Have a walk or go fishing at the Noorderpier pier.

Only in the Hook of Holland: See the Maeslantkering, the impressive steel barrier. It was constructed to prevent floodings as Holland is built below sea level. The barriers are made of two enormous doors and each one’s length equals to the Eiffel Tower’s height. At the Keringhuis, the Water Management Information Centre, you can learn information about the construction of the barrier and take a guided tour.
