Ithaki, an epic island

  • Vathy is the old port and the capital of Ithaki. Visit the Archaeological Museum, the Naval Folklore Museum, admire the bust of Homer, Odysseus’s statue and the monument to the Unknown Sailor. Lazareto is a small island in the bay of Vathy where you will find the 1668 chapel of Sotiras covered in pine trees.

  • The Cave of the Nymphs, also called Marmarospilia. There are some impressive formations in both entrances; the “gate of the gods” and the “gate of humans”.
  • The romantic village Kioni with its 3 windmills. Visit the stone house of Karaiskakis, one of the biggest heroes of the Greek Revolution and the church of Saint John which features a unique wooden temple.
