This city port in Sweden is the capital of the Blekinge province. Since 1998 Karlskrona has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being the only baroque city in Sweden and for having the only naval base of the country.
Karlskrona’s archipelago is at Blekinge’s coast and has more than 1650 islands and islets. The city was built in 1680 by the order of King Karl XI and its name means “Karl’s Crown”. It is situated on Verkö island which is connected to the mainland through a bridge.

• The Blekinge Museum hosts photo exhibitions and items from the city’s history. Admission is free.
• The Naval Museum (Marinmuseum) is on the Stumholmen islet. It’s a modern museum about the city’s naval and fishing life with an impressive underwater tunnel.
• The Amiralitetskyrkan is a Christian church, built in 1685. It’s Karlskrona’s oldest building and the biggest wooden church of Sweden.
• The fortress Kungsholms Fort is one of the first that was built in the city.

• Swim at Knipehalls Badplats, an unorganized beach with calm waters. Most days you can fish here and during winter it becomes a perfect ice rink.
• Swim or have a picnic at Ringö havsbad. It’s an area with a wide lawn and a playground.
• Have a go at the diving tower at the Stumholmens Badplats. There is a small sandy beach where you can enjoy sunbathing, complete with showers and WC.

Kroppkakor are potato dumplings filled with onions and pork.
