NISYROS

Nisyros, an island of the Dodecanese, is located in the southern Aegean, between Kos, Tilos and Astipalea. The island was formed by volcanic activity, hence the very rough terrain.

The capital is a very easygoing and quiet town named Mandraki. Being on the foot of the hill where the area's monastery is built, it forms a very picturesque setting. The port and the traditional castle that protected locals from raids are also in the capital.

Besides the island's beaches you might also want to visit one of the three cratersin the highest points of the island, where “things get even rougher”.

Passenger routes connect Nisyros with Piraeus as well as Kos, Kalymnos, Rhodes and other islands in the Dodecanese.
