Huelva, the Andalusian gate to the Canary Islands

The port is very close to the borders with Portugal and Gibraltar. The city is at the mouth of the rivers Odiel and Tinto. It’s in the province of Huelva, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. The city is famous because Christopher Colombus started his voyage to the “New World” in 1492 from there.

Attractions in Huelva
• The Museo de Huelva is the Archaeological Museum of the city and it is divided to two sections: One has archaeological finds and the other features works from local artists.
• The Santa Iglesia Catedral de la Merced de Huelva Cathedral was built in 1775. It was struck from two earthquakes and both times it was built again.
• Visit the Museo del Jamón, a museum dedicated to the Spanish kind of ham.

Beaches in Huelva
• Playa de los Enebrales is a big sandy public beach, featuring sunbeds.
• Playa La Bota is the natural continuity of Playa de los Enebrales. It is secluded but it has a parking lot and toilets.
• At the Gulf of Cadiz there is a long sandy coast with many beaches in the row. Some of them are Playa de Nueva Umbría, Playa La Antilla and Playa de la Gaviota.
