Attractions in Agaete
Museo de la Rama is the Historical and Ethnographical Museum of the area. Visit and learn all about the history and the preparation of the Fiesta de la Rama. Visits are made only upon request.
• The church Iglesia Matriz de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción was built in 1874.
• At the Archaeological Park Parque Arqueológico Maipés de Agaete you will see one of the biggest necropolises of the Canary Islands.
God’s Finger (El Dedo de Dios) is a natural monument in the sea of Agaete. In 2005 it was partly ruined during a strong storm. Today a part of it is still standing and if you want to visit it, you can organize a boat tour from the port.

Agaete Piscina Natural is a natural pool, very close to the Playa Punta Gorda beach.
Las Nieves has small pebbles and is close to the port. It is not equipped.
Playa de Guayedra has black sand and big pebbles. It is not equipped.

• Visit the National Park Parque Natural Tamadaba. It’s 18 km from the port and has hiking trails and pine forests. The Canary Island pine (Pinus canariensis) is protected and the whole Gran Canaria Island is an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
• Climbing, hiking and swimming at the Charco Azul waterfalls.
• Travel 15 km from the port to see the Caves of Valeron (Cenobio de Valerón). It’s an archaeological area with many caves that used to be a storage for cereals.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is 33 km from the port. Agaete to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is 30 minutes by car and 1,5 hours by bus.
Telde is 20 km from the port. Agaete to Telde is 45 minutes by car and 2 hours by bus.
Mogan is 55 km from the port. Agaete to Mogan is 80 minutes by car and 2,5 hours by bus.

Only in Agaete: The Festival of the Branches (Fiesta de la Rama) is celebrated on the 4th of August of each year to honour the Virgin of Las Nieves. It is the most known festival on the island and on this day, the locals dance on the streets and hold branches with which they “whip” the sea. This tradition comes from the ancient years when Agaete’s habitants would pray for rain. This festival has been acknowledged as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
