Fethiye, a low budget destination of the Turkish Riviera

Back in old times, the city was known as Telmessos and then as Makri. Fethiye was built 5000 years ago and can be found at the Turkish coast. The Greek islands Rhodes and Kastellorizo are just a breath away.

Attractions in Fethiye
• Visit the Old Town of Fethiye, also known as Paspatur, to do some souvenir shopping at the local bazaars.
• The rock-cut Tomb of Amyntas was built in the 4th century BC.
• A well-preserved Lycian sarcophagus can be found at the city centre. It is estimated to be 1300 years old!

Beaches in Fethiye
• Oludeniz (Ölüdeniz) is organized and has been awarded with a Blue Flag. It’s 10 km from the port.
• Çalış is a lengthy beach, both sandy and pebbled. It’s 7,5 km from the port.
• Küçük Samanlık Plajı is an organized beach that stretches in virgin scenery with tall trees. It’s 8 km from the port.

Activities in Fethiye
• Paddle boarding at the Blue Lagoon, the exotic sea lake at Oludeniz.
• In the same area you can also do paragliding and enjoy the majestic view of the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea.
• Explore the Saklikent National Park (Saklıkent Milli Parkı). It’s 46 km from the port where you can find the Saklikent Gorge which is 18 km long. Only 4 km of it is accessible to the public and only from April to October.

Access to Fethiye: You can reach the port by car, ferry, bus or plane. The central bus station is 15 minutes from the port on foot. The closest airport is Dalaman, 50 km from the port.
Antalya is 200 km away and you can get there by bus, taxi or car.
Izmir is 350 km from the port. You can get there by car (the drive is 4 hours) or take the bus and make a 6-hour journey. The fastest way is to get to Dalaman airport by bus and take a direct flight to Izmir.
Istanbul is 800 km away and you can catch a direct flight to the city from Dalaman airport. Otherwise, if you have time, it’s an 8-hour drive to Istanbul. Make it a trip and take the bus for a 14-hour journey.

Only in Fethiye: Sunbathe at the Butterfly Valley, a beach with more than 80 kinds of butterflies. The Kelebekler Vadisi is only accessible by a water taxi that you can take from Oludeniz. Follow the path that leads to the crystalline waterfalls. Some of the activities you can do here are swimming, snorkelling, climbing, diving, etc. There is a café and a restaurant on the beach, and you can rent a tent or a bungalow and spend the night.
