What to see at Schinoussa island

The two villages of Schinoussa are Chora and Messaria. If you stand on the top of the island’s hills you will enjoy a panoramic view of Amorgos, Ios, Naxos, Iraklia, Keros and Koufonissia floating in the Aegean Sea.
On the way from Mersini port to Chora (main town), stop at the Cave of Maniatis, also known as the Pirate’s Cave. Legend has it that a pirate coming from Mani lost his life here trying to rob the Church of Panagia Akathi.
Wander around Chora that was built in the highest part of the island in order to protect the population from the pirates’ attacks. White stone houses with blue windows hold the typical and original Cycladic architecture.
Mingle with the locals at fish taverns and try the awarded fava bean dip, xinomizithra (sour spread cheese), patatato (goat and potato stew), lamb and local raki (strong alcoholic beverage served in shots).
