Positano, the pearl of the Costiera Amalfitana

The colourful village is in the Amalfi Coast, in the Salerno province, and the Campania region. Positano is built on a hill that goes down to the beach. Cars stop at the entrance of the village from where, within 20 minutes, you can walk the main road and reach the port. Positano used to be a summer resort for Roman emperors as well as celebrities like Rudolf Nureyev, Elizabeth Taylor and, lately, George Clooney.

Attractions in Positano
• The Church of Santa Maria Assunta (Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta) is the church of the Madonna of Positano, patron of the village. Her holy image is found here in this church that was built in 1920 and has a colourful mosaic dome.
• The Archaeological Museum (MAR-Museo Archeologico Romano di Positano) is located in a roman villa, the Villa D' Ozio which was destroyed after the Vezuvian eruption in 79 AC.
• Enjoy the sea view from the Vallone Porto, a hiking trail with many steps. In this natural scenery you will come across many surprises like goats and a waterfall.

Beaches in Positano
Fornillo has crystalline waters and in some areas it is organized. There are two ways to reach this beach: By renting a boat or on foot and then by going down a few steps.
• The Spiaggi Grande is the main beach in Positano. Some areas are organized, while others are not.
Arienzo has emerald waters, and you can access it by a boat that you will rent in the port or if you walk and go down 200 steps.
La Scogliera is private and expensive. Before you make a reservation, have in mind that children and pets are not allowed in the beach.

Activities in Positano
Hop on a bus and take the route from Postitano to Amalfi, one of the most idyllic in Italy.
• Try the famous Italian drinks, limoncello and fragolino, in a small ceramic Capodimonte cup, which is mainly produced in Positano.
• Put on your comfortable shoes and hike on the Path of Gods. It’s a 7 km long route with a breathtaking view. You can either book a guided tour or go on your own.

Access to Positano: You can reach the village by car, ferry, plane or bus. However, the closest bus stop to the port is a 10-minute walk. Cars are not allowed to park in the village so any vehicle like car, private bus or taxi stops at Viale Pasitea and from there the port is an 8-minute walk. The International Airport of Naples is 80 km away.
Amalfi is 16 km away. Positano to Amalfi is 40 minutes by car and an hour by bus.
Salerno is 45 km away. Positano to Salerno is 1,5 hours by car and 2,5 by bus.
Sorrento is 20 km away. Positano to Sorrento is 50 minutes by car and 70 minutes by bus.
