Chora is the main settlement of the island, located at the port of Psara. There you can see the majestic Church of Agios Nikolaos, as well as the stone building of Konaki.
• Captain Konstantinos Kanaris was born in Psara and was one of the biggest heroes of the Greek Revolution in 1821. His mansion was destroyed in 1824. In its place, today, you can see a small garden, Kanari’s bust and two canons from the Revolutionary era.
• Visit Palaiokastro, a fortress that was built in the 15th century. Mavri Rachi is a very important historic monument, dedicated to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for freedom.
• Explore Arhontiki, where apart from a stunning beach you will see a Mycenaean settlement with tombs from 2.000 B.C.
• 10 km from Chora, you will find the Monastery of the Assumption of Mary, build on the 17th century. The icon of the Assumption of Mary was a work of Dominikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco). During the war, it was transferred to Syros to be kept safe.
• Next to Katsouni beach, is Spitalia, a 18th century building where every traveler had to quarantine in order to avoid spreading infectious diseases. Today it’s transformed to a restaurant.
