AGIOS EFSTRATIOS

Agios Efstratios or Ai-Stratis is a miniscule island in the northeastern part of the Aegean Sea. While dry and rocky is shall become the first entirely “green” Greek island for it will be the first that will cover its’ energy needs from renewable sources.

The capital, Hora, is small, picturesque and rather attractive, even after the 1968 earthquake which brought down most of the houses that were consequently replaced by dull little “boxes” in an era where there was no space for luxury.

Ai-Stratis also served as an exile-camp between 1929 and 1964.

Passenger routes connect Ai-Stratis to Lavrio, Kavala and Limnos.
