La Palma, la Isla Bonita
The official name of the island is San Miguel de La Palma, but locals call it “Beautiful Island” or “La Isla Bonita”. • Start your tour of the island from the Plaza de Espana, the central square of Santa Cruz de la Palma. It has Renaissance-style architecture and, for many, it’s the prettiest square of the Canary Islands.
• Enjoy a stunning view of the island from the Castle of the Virgin (Castillo de la Virgen) that was built in the 17th century.
• The Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory (Centro de Visitantes del Roque de los Muchachos) is 2.396 m above sea level. There you can see Grantecan, one of the biggest telescopes in the world.
• The Banana Museum (Museo del Platano) is in Tezacorte, 35 km from the port. One of the main activities of the people in La Palma is the cultivation of bananas.
• At the Naval Museum (Museo Naval) you will see the replica of Santa Maria on which Columbus traveled to India. It’s the most visited museum on the island.
• Have a walk at neighborhood of The Colorful Balconies of Avenida Maritima (Balcones de la Avenida Marítima). These 19th century beauties are colourful, with special architectural features.

• Playa de Bajamar has black sand and many nearby cafés and restaurants.
• Playa de los Cancajos has shallow waters and volcanic sand. The beach is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving.
• Puerto Naos is organized and has small pebbles. It’s a perfect spot if you like paragliding.

Activities in La Palma
• Visit the National Park Caldera de Taburiente (Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente), at the area where the volcano is found. Explore hiking trails through pine trees and waterfalls.
• At Los Tilos, you will find yourself in unspoilt nature and you will walk through forests, canyons and waterfalls.
• Go to the south end of the island at the salt lakes called Salinas de Fuencaliente. Explore them through the walking paths, see the lighthouse Faro de Fuencaliente, and swim at the small beach in front of the lighthouse.
