Islands created by volcanoes

Nisyros and Santorini are two of the…hottest islands in Greece. In the same way, here you will not find exotic beaches with green waters and endless stretches of sand, or typical island houses. A classic attraction in the Canary Islands is the volcano that has become the center on almost all the islands. Teide is located in Tenerife, reaching over 3.5 kilometers, being not only the highest point in all of Spain, but also the third largest volcano in the world. The area around is called the National Volcano Park (Parque Nacional del Teide) and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can explore it in several ways: Hiking, taking a cable car, hiring a guide, watching it at night, even having a picnic. Teide's last activity dates back to 1909, something which makes visits here safe, unlike Cumbre Vieja: The volcano in La Palma last erupted in 2021 and the activity lasted 85 days. In Lanzarote there is the Timanfaya National Park, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most famous attractions in the Canary Islands.

Diving in the Atlantic Ocean

Many people think that in the Canary Islands the beaches have only black sand. The truth is that only a few ones do and you will mainly find them in La Palma and the northern side of La Gomera. If you want impressive sandy beaches with green waters, you can go to Playa Mujeres and Playa de los Pocillos in Lanzarote. El Hierro, on the other hand, has a seabed that looks like a volcanic labyrinth, which is why it is considered the ultimate diving hot spot. The beaches in Fuerteventura stretch for 150 kilometers with sand dunes and pure landscapes. The weather is great for water sports, which is why the World Windsurfing and Kiteboarding Championships are organized here every year.
