What to see
• The Ethnological Museum of Thrace, at the city center. Traditional local garments and everyday Thracian objects are among the exhibits.
• The Museum of the Flora and Fauna of Evros at the old City Hall of Alexandroupoli. Established in 1985, it holds a collection of embalmed birds and animals of the Evros wetlands .
• The Petrified Forest of Tychero, at the village of Fylakto, 50 km away from the port. A very important geological monument that remains as it was 25 million years ago. There is also a petrified oak that is assumed to be 35 million years old.

Where to swim
• EOT Beach: Α long, sandy beach, awarded with a Blue Flag, just a stone’s throw away from the city center. You can find basketball, tennis and volleyball courts as well as facilities for people with disabilities.
• Nea Khili: A popular sandy beach, with nice spots for eating and drinking.
• Mesimvria: 20 km away from the port you will find the remains of the ancient city of Mesimvria. As the excavations are still in progress, swimming in front of the archaeological site is forbidden. However, it is allowed at all other parts of the long beach.

• Visit the Evros Delta, one of the most important wetlands in Europe. It’s a protected area and home for 304 bird species, 40 mammal species, 21 reptiles, to name a few. Prior to your visit, make sure to consult the specialized Information Center.
• Relax at the Thermal Springs of Traianoupoli. The thermal mineral water contains hydrochloride that is said to help liver and kidney problems, arthritis and slipped disks.

Tip: You will get to Alexandroupoli by car, plane, train or KTEL bus. The distance between Athens and the port is 800 km, and from Thessaloniki it is 300 km. The port is just 6 km away from the airport.
