Andros
According to the article, Andros is the "Best for authentic character.” It is only two hours away from the port of Rafina and is home to the oldest ship-owner families in Greece. Andros is the second largest island of Cyclades, with a very different appeal to its glitzier neighbours and ideal for island hopping. “For a start”, the author explains, “it's greener and has lots of scenic hiking trails, but on a hot day, it's the beaches that take centre stage. Wild and lovely Achla — overlooked in its sheltered cove by a lighthouse and an Orthodox church — is the standout, but sandy Batsi is more accessible, with ample facilities”.
Folegandros
If the Santorini sunset, amidst thousands of people around you, does not suit you, this is an island where you will enjoy it in peace. It's Chora is located on a hill and you will find many places to enjoy a cocktail, take a deep breath and gaze endlessly at the sea. One of the must-try experiences here, is to walk to the Church of Panagia Folegandros, with the miraculous icon, especially when the sun is about to set. The island has four settlements and hidden beaches that can be reached by boat.

Nisyros
"Best for volcanic views", says the author. The mysterious atmosphere created by the volcano, is in itself enough to put you in a mood of relaxation. Walking in the Caldera and the central crater of the volcano, called "Stefanos", reminiscent of a lunar landscape, will upgrade your vacation to an unprecedented experience. Nisyros is also famous for its thermal baths and hot springs.

This, once the seafaring nation's main commercial hub, is today a grand dame with the charm of her past still present, and a hub for many festivals, including a rebetiko music festival and an animated film festival called "Animasyros". Archaeological museums and beautifully preserved theaters are a plus in Syros.

Located in the Ionian sea, it is one of the most low profile destinations in Greece, which is why it still remains unchanged. Access is possible from Nydri, the port in Lefkada, and you will reach the shore in about 25 minutes. Days in Meganisi are spent swimming in green waters and eating fresh seafood.

Milos
“Best for otherworldly landscapes”. This is the home of Venus of Milos, now on display in the Louvre, so you know you are in an island of beauty, an ideal romantic getaway. According to the author, “Volcanic origins created a landscape of elemental colours that mix sulphur-yellow cliffs with ash-white and obsidian-black rock formations. Such rawness comes into its own at Sarakiniko, where smoothly sculpted, moonlike shores contrast magnificently with the dazzling Aegean Sea.”
